Mason Vally Fish Hatchery

(Bass Pond)
DesertDale and Kitfoxgal had a fantastic visit at the "Mason's Valley Fish Hatchery" near our site.
Construction of the hatchery , started in 1988.  Then was completed in 1990, at the price of 8.5 million dollars.
It is operated by the "Nevada Dept of Wildlife".  It is one of three hatcheries in Nevada.
Trout produced here for recreational fishing, with "self-guided tours".
The eggs are collected from different areas.  In the "wild"  the  rate is about 5%. In the hatchery from 60% to 90%
They are fed a special diet, by hand then automatic feeders.
The eggs hatch in about 30 to 35 days.  When the get to be 3" to 4" they are moved to the out-side ponds .
They are then stocked into 9 western counties of Nevada.
What a pleasure it has been, here at the
"Mason Valley Fish Hatchery & Camp Grounds".  Plus the "Birding" is great.
