Organ Pipe Cactus NS

The Organ Pipe Cactus is a large cactus rarely found in the U.S.  Needs the heat and a little rain. It grows on warmer the slopes where it can get more sun.  Severe frost can kill the cactus.  They bloom in May, June and July.  The bloom is lavender-white , opening after sun sets.

There are some 28 cactus species that are found in  the Sonoran  Desert, that is including the saguaro and organ pipe.
This is the area that is set up for a  rest stop, with  shade added.  You may even have the pleasure of spotting a animal, such as a Gila woodpecker, a Western diamondback, Desert turtoise, Javelina

These Javelinas was taken in Ajo, at the wash house.
These Gila Woodpecker photo was taken at our site in Ajo

This was taken on our way to Organ Pipe N.S.  DesretDale took this photo of the Saguaro with an arm growing out of an arm.

DesertDale even bought me lunch at the big town of Why, AZ.
Hope you enjoy this blog as much as we did, when we were heading for Organ Pipe.  Kitfoxgal
